02-02-10, Drumochter Munros - Ski Touring

A beautiful day. We headed to Drumochter to ski over a few Munros. The snow was ace, powder with some hard patches. The views were superb, you could see most of the highlands from the summits. We skinned up A' Mharconaich then Beinn Udlamain and finally Sgairneach Mhor.

We found extensive areas of windslab on South-East facing slopes. The climbing conditions in general are great, with ice and hard neve present all over the highlands. However it is the presence of this windslab on approach and exit slopes not just on SE aspects (cross loading) that is the problematic! Choose your route carefully.

The final down hill was great, shame it wasn't longer.
